Huntington East Middle School Project Update as of 8-8-12

Below you will find pictures that demonstrate the construction progress of today, 8-8-12.   The weather is cooperating and the contractors are making significant progress.  At the construction meeting on Monday, the updated scheduled confirmed the building is on schedule at this point to be complete by Sept. 30, 2012.

Discussions are being held to determine staffing.

The design committee has been invited to look at samples of the polished concrete.

The polished concrete will be the first in our county and should save money on maintenance.

Frank Barnett, principal, has been provided a drawing to begin numbering classrooms which will be used by staff, contractors, and maintenance for moving.

Footers are approximately 75% complete.  Slab and walls are constructed in wing D, slabs poured in wing c, slabs and walls are complete in the gym and the radius wall.  Pay particular attention to the radius wall picture.  I believe this will be the marque of this school.  This unique design will be attractive and connect the school wings.

Note that the first of the steel structure is being placed on the radius hall this week.
Waste is currently being placed in separate dumpsters to maximize recycling and minimize waste, part of the LEED points.  A commissioning agent will be on site later this month to review progress and verify compliance.

An updated budget is provided in the pdf file for you to review.  You will see that as of today, our contingency fund appears to be adequate.
Mr. Mike Hall, our SBA representative, and ZMM attend our meetings and are satisfied with progress on this project.

It takes a great deal of coordination to orchestrate the many trades working on this site.  Mr. Tom Frye represents our county well and is a valuable asset.  He assures that the county gets the best built schools possible by making sure ZMM specifications are followed.  Many thanks to him for his dedication.
