Cabell County Schools Instructional Technology Department

Welcome! The technology department is responsible for the planning, maintenance and replacement of the technology which is used to assist in the delivery of the education of the students of Cabell County. The department consists of the network engineer, two technology specialists, a secretary, two technicians and a systems operator (sysop) at each school.

While work orders determine the daily load of the technicians, the network engineer handles the functionality of the servers and the integration of programs with the network operating system at all schools. The technology specialists handle the computer replacement schedule, eRate, Edline, and the computer maintenance at the Board Office. The secretary is the access email contact for the county.

The sysops maintain their school inventory which is compiled at the board office and used to plan replacement policy in the county. The county maintains over 30 servers, 8000 computers, and the network backbone to support both wired and wireless networks at all schools. The two high schools have full time sysops.

The technology department plans and delivers a variety of technology classes every year. Each summer offers a major, week-long traveling workshop. The 2013 teacher workshop is centered on glass and ceramics in WV and is designed for science and social studies middle and high school teachers.

The department is currently migrating our school servers from Novell© to Windows© servers. There is a pilot one-to-one iPad project currently underway at Enslow Middle School.
