Cabell County's Title I Schools are dedicated to improving the academic achievement of the disadvantaged. As part of the federal government's "War on Poverty," Title I of the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was passed to provide financial assistance to local education agencies serving areas with high concentrations of children from low-income families. The purpose of this federal title is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. |

Central City Elementary WESTEST results for 2011 did not meet the required federal standard set for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in the areas of math and reading. Parents of CCE students were therefore given the choice to transfer their children to another school that made AYP. Choice schools included Hite Saunders, Meadows, and Geneva Kent. Regardless of AYP status, Central City Elementary promises to provide a high quality education by their expert staff. |
