CABELL COUNTY SCHOOLS SECONDARY SCHOOLS CONSORTIUM

At the heart of this innovation is the desire to personalize the high school experience by differentiating graduation requirements and providing flexibility in the way students earn their high school credits. Ninth and tenth grade students will be provided a core curriculum infused with 21st century learning skills that will build a firm foundation upon which to progress through the upper grades. Students who struggle with critical skills will have opportunities for direct instruction in reading and math within the school day. Credit recovery will be embedded into the school day allowing students to repeat coursework and demonstrate proficiency via PLATO. Once the students are firmly grounded in the core curriculum, they will have the option to pursue different pathways towards graduation. Some of these pathways will include on-line options, internships, embedded content in a CTE class, and various other extended learning opportunities.

Cabell County's Secondary Innovation Zone is multi-faceted. An executive summary provides an overview of the plan. A Gantt chart was developed to track the implementation of all Innovation Zone. A logic model shows the goals and activities of the Innovation Zone and how the project is evaluated.

INNOVATION ZONE COMMITTEES: Because there are many facets to this Innovation Zone, committees were formed after the planning grant was awarded to provide more detail about each component of the plan. There are 17 committees working on the various components of the Innovation Zone. Three of these committees, Interest Academies, Quad D Instruction and Shared Leadership have committees working at each of the three schools. The other fourteen committees have team members from all three scholls who are working together to develop guidance around IZ components. For more information about the three committees working at the school level, please contact the school's principal.Below are links to the varous committees and their work. Additional information will be added to this site as committees make their work available. Click here to access a Google calendar that lists all IZ committee meetings.
